Inreach and Outreach for Digital Archives. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
This course is offered by the Society of American Archivists and participants may register here. SSA members may use the code IROR25LA to receive $25 off the SAA non-member rate.
The course will provide the core components necessary to gather support, engage stakeholders, and enact the change necessary to be able to handle digital archives in your institution. Participants will learn techniques for engaging collection donors and technology staff in order to effectively collect and manage born-digital materials.

Project Management for Archivists. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, 1:00-5:00 pm.
Whether you are processing a collection, implementing a new digital system, moving to a new facility, setting up a public program, or creating an award-winning exhibit, you are serving as a de facto project manager. Archivists spend a large amount of our time working with these types of assignments with little to no project management training in our repertoire. In this workshop, participants will learn practical project management skills and tips with real-world application possibilities. We will discuss the ins-and-outs of project planning, scheduling, communication, and system utilization. Participants will be invited to share their successes and challenges, as well as present current projects for group discussion and assistance.

Grants 101: Becoming a Grant-Ready Institution. April 22, 2014, 2:00-3:00 pm.
Part one of the grant writing workshop series will be a one hour webinar, covering available sources of funding and basic information about grants, intended for those who are new to the enterprise.

Planning Fundable Grant Projects. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, 8:30 am-11:30 am.
Part two of the grant writing series is a three-hour in person workshop, covering grant planning and basic application information, intended for all audiences but especially people fairly new to grant writing.

Grant writing Clinic. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, 1:30-5:00 pm.
Part three of the grant writing series is a three-hour, in person grant writing clinic, intended for experienced grant writers. Attendees will be asked to submit an application before registering.

The Professional Development Committee is excited to announce a three-part workshop on grant writing this spring. These workshops are being developed and offered by experienced professionals Ann Hodges and Danielle Plumer, who have given a great deal of thought to the best way to prepare people to write grants that get funded.

The application period for the 2014 Harold T. Pinkett Minority Student Award is now open!

The Pinkett Award was established in 1993 and recognizes and acknowledges minority graduate students, such as those of African, Asian, Latino or Native American descent, who, through scholastic and personal achievement, manifest an interest in becoming professional archivists and active members of the Society of American Archivists.
The recipients of the award will receive full complimentary registration to the SAA Annual Meeting and related expenses for hotel and travel for attending the Joint Annual Meeting of CoSA, NAGARA, and SAA in Washington, D.C. in August 2014. In addition, each recipient receives a complimentary one-year membership in SAA.

Eligibility: The Pinkett is awarded to minority students, with preference given to full-time students possessing a minimum scholastic grade point average of 3.5 while enrolled in a graduate program focusing on archival management during the academic year proceeding the date on which the award is given.
