The Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists board is pleased to announce the Call for Proposals for this year’s 2021 Annual Conference, taking place the week of Nov. 8 - 12 (with no conference talks on Veterans Day). As with last year, we have decided to run a virtual conference in lieu of an in-person meeting.

The conference theme this year is Digital Projects and Practical Solutions. We will center conference material on digital and technical efforts in archives, whether that be automation or migration projects, finding aid or processing solutions, or conservation and preservation work. Specifically, we encourage proposals that can feature demonstrations of these efforts or of the tools and technologies themselves. Example topics and tools could include:

    • API use and examples
    • Digitization successes and failures (scanning, metadata, storage, etc.)
    • Walkthroughs and demos of various technical tools such as OpenRefine, TidyData, Python, Unix shell and scripting, etc.
    • Technical or strategic approaches to finding aids, backlogs, or batch description

We would like participants and attendees to see clear examples and solutions – even if or especially if this work did not have total success. Any presentation format is welcome – panels, lighting talks, roundtables, etc. If you have a subject area you feel is not within the conference theme – please propose anyway! We are open to other subject areas.

    How can you participate?

    • Propose a walkthrough, demonstration, or other presentation format for the conference. Each proposal for a conference session should support one hour of presentation and/or discussion, except in the case of 10-15 minute lightning talks. All are welcome to apply! Please submit proposals through our Call for Proposals Form by October 12th, 2021. SRMA will confirm proposal acceptances no later than October 18th. If you have any questions or would like help with a submission, contact Walker Sampson, SRMA Program Director, at walker....@colorado.edu.
Attend the conference as a listener and discussion participant. Registration details will be posted on our website and sent out to SRMA members in early October, once the forum schedule is set. Our goal is to offer 1 - 2 sessions per day.
