Audiovisual Collections Care for Native Institutions: Southwest Regional Cohort Application (due 2/10)

    To help improve stewardship of audiovisual collections the Community Archiving Workshop, in partnership with the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums, is providing five (5) tribal cultural institutions in Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas an opportunity to participate in a remote learning cohort program that will provide:

    • A training kit and supplies for inspecting and repairing audiovisual collections
    • Online training through six virtual workshops
    • Professional support to assist in the completion of a collections inventory
    • Professional guidance in making necessary repairs to collection
    • Assistance in developing a preservation plan
    • $1,200 for the purchase of preservation materials

    Participants must:

    • Be located in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas or Oklahoma
    • Have an unprocessed and/ or unpreserved audiovisual collection
    • Have at least one employee/ organization member committed to the project
    • Attend all six online workshops
    • Work collaboratively with project consultants to inventory collection

    The six online workshops are available to all who wish to participate. Dates are to be announced. Topics to be covered include:

    • Identifying audiovisual formats and risk factors
    • Inspection and inventory: why and how
    • Metadata for audiovisual collections
    • Audiovisual Preservation: passive and active approaches
    • Digitization: in-house vs out-of-house
    • Fundraising for your preservation project
    • Copyright and permissions issues
    • Disaster preparedness for audiovisual collections

    Timeline:

    • January 2021: Call for regional participants
    • February 10, 2021: Application closes/ selection of regional participants
    • March - August 2021: online workshops
    • June- August 2021: inventory and inspection of collections
    • September- October 2021: complete preservation recommendations
