Description: Visualization always makes it easier and more entertaining to share information. Take maps, for example; when they accompany something, they give the viewer context for what you are trying to explain. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) takes mapping a location even further by its ability to attach data to the map. This allows more than just a reference map showing where something exists. It goes further to allow for analysis and modeling of the data. Using GIS is amazing but often complicated.
What if you can go beyond straight visualization and use text to set the stage for what you are trying to show? How about telling a story with interactive maps as part of it? This form of GIS is through a GIS application called Esri StoryMaps. A great example of this is when Rice professor, Brian Riedel, created a StoryMap titled The Reservation: Exploring Houston's Red-Light District, 1908-1917 (see link).
