    STARTING SALARY RANGE: $46,929 - $52,795 annually, plus excellent benefits

    POSITION TITLE: Director of Archives

    DEPARTMENT: Archives

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    Manages the Archives Department.  Responsible for the historically valuable business assets of the State Bar of Texas and for administering records management, exhibits, collections and research programs.  Conducts liaison activities for the Texas Bar Historical Foundation.

    PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

    1. Manages the Archives Department in conformity with accepted principles and practices of the administrative management, archival, and records management professions. Prepares annual department budget, manages supply purchases, and reviews monthly financials.
    2. Formulates departmental, archives, and records policies and procedures. Trains and supervises staff.
    3. Serves as the State Bar’s Records Management Officer. Leads the State Bar of Texas records management program; maintains compliance with Texas state agency records management laws and regulations; conducts periodic department records inventories and analyzes the outcome to identify necessary changes to agency records management policies and procedures; coordinates periodic records retention schedule recertification.
    4. Oversees records management training for staff and volunteers, and provides records management and retention guidance to staff and volunteers as needed.
    5. Provides both internal and external reference and research services. Digitizes archival materials on demand for reference purposes.
    6. Develops the archives collection from internal and external donors by conducting presentations, and establishing and maintaining relationships with records creators. Conducts accessioning activities as needed.
    7. Provides direction for processing and cataloging archives collections. Coordinates with archives management software vendor to ensure the proper information infrastructure for cataloging and providing access to collections. Conducts archival processing, cataloging, and digitization activities as needed.
    8. Conducts outreach on behalf of the Archives Department, including providing archival material for State Bar outreach activities and developing exhibits related to Bar history.
    9. Acts as liaison to the Texas Bar Historical Foundation (TBHF). Facilitates meetings of the TBHF Board of Trustees. Coordinates the Foundation’s Texas Court Records Preservation Grant Program and facilitates the receipt of donations and distribution of grant funds. Makes informational presentations on behalf of the Foundation.
    10. Serves as Texas Supreme Court Historical Society liaison.
    11. Attends and participates in ongoing professional development.
    12. Performs other responsibilities as required.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    Bachelor’s degree required in library and information science and 3 years of related work experience. Master’s degree preferred. Certified archivist preferred. Experience in organizational management. Strong communication skills, including demonstrated leadership capabilities. Excellent skills and experience in internal and external communication, including writing, public speaking, conducting meetings and external relations. Prefer demonstrated ability in the development and implementation of short-and long-term goals, strategic plans, and marketing.  Requires knowledge of archival preservation and materials culture and preventive conservation techniques.  Experience in exhibit creation and preparation. Knowledge of computer applications in an archival and museum setting.
