Houston Public Library is seeking a Librarian IV to serve as the manager of the Houston Metropolitan Research Center. The Houston Metropolitan Research Center (HMRC), located in the historic Julia Ideson Building, includes archival and book collections related to Texas and Houston local history. HMRC’s purpose and role is to locate, preserve, and make accessible documentary evidence of Houston's history.

Salary: $65,000.00 - $72,000.00 Annually

The essential duties and functions of the position include but are not limited to the following:

• Manage day-to-day operations of the unit, supervising unit staff and assigning projects and duties to staff;
• Coordinate with other HPL units and COH departments as directed;
• Supervise HMRC staff and lead all areas of staffing, including hiring, training, and staff development;
• Participate in workflow improvement, strategic planning, policy development, and decision-making related to library services provided by HMRC, all special collections, and across the HPL system.
• Coordinating implementation of the Houston Public Library’s Digitization Program for the unit, including archiving and preserving collections
• Respond to budget and statistics inquiries, as it relates to grant-funded projects and required statistics reports;
• Advocate for the needs of the HMRC branch to other HPL units, HMRC Friends group, partners, and other stakeholders.
• Guide HMRC collection development policies; programming and outreach activities; and preservation and digitization projects.
• Work closely with stakeholders and customers to ensure that programs and services match current research needs and interests;
• Other administrative duties as assigned.
