    Function: To serve as project manager of digitization projects and assist Digital Archivist with enabling access to digital materials.

    Scope: Responsible for completing digitization projects utilizing digital photography equipment and scanners; managing the creation of metadata; assembling digitized content with metadata for upload to the department’s digital library platform; for managing the proper upload of all files; for updating collection finding aids to include links to digitized resources; for basic preservation maintenance and issues reporting; creation of detailed project status reports.

    Typical:

    1. Coordinates with the Digital Archivist to manage the digitization of all collection holdings utilizing specialized overhead camera photography equipment or scanners to digitize originals, follows digitization capture and metadata guidelines, evaluates quality of capture and performs quality control tasks, and creates project documentation.
    2. Manages the inventory of collection material in the department’s digitization queue and special digitization projects, including updating records to fix typographical errors & misspellings, reformatting dates, updating processing and digitization status information, and creating additional descriptive metadata.
    3. Follows department guidelines for uploading digitized files and metadata to the department’s digital library platform.
    4. Follows department guidelines for XML encoding to provide links to digitized content in our digital library to the collection’s finding aid.
    5. Provides basic preservation maintenance and reports larger preservation issues for collection materials to the appropriate Archivist or Librarian
    6. Collaborates with Archivists to assess special projects, serves on the Digitization Team review committee, and generates reports on the status of digitization projects to share with the department.
    7. Oversees student workers or interns with digitization-related tasks.
    8. Contributes to department outreach efforts and provides public services assistance.
    9. Performs additional duties as assigned.

    Periodic:

    1. Research equipment, best practices and standards necessary to fulfill duties.


    Salary Range: $35,000-$40,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
