The Lunder Research Center at The Couse-Sharp Historic Site is seeking a Contract Archivist to assist in the processing of several recently donated archival collections.

The total budget for this project is $6,750 and the rate of pay is $20 per hour. Work can begin immediately upon hire and the schedule is somewhat flexible provided the work is completed no later than June 15, 2022.

    Project Duties

Reporting to the Virginia Couse Leavitt Archivist Chair and Collections Manager, the Contract Archivist will be responsible for arranging and rehousing several collections of original documents and compiled research materials relating to the Taos Society of Artists and its members as well as collections of print ephemera related to Taos and northern New Mexico. The Contract Archivist will also be responsible for the creation of collection finding aids in ArchivesSpace for publication on the New Mexico Archives Online website.

    Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have experience in handling rare and fragile materials in a museum, archive, or library setting; be familiar with processing standards such as DACS and controlled vocabularies such as AAT, LCSH, ULAN, and TGN. The candidate should be familiar with the standards and best practices for the physical and intellectual arrangement and description of archival collections.

Previous experience with ArchivesSpace is a plus, but is not necessary. Basic familiarity with the Taos Society of Artists and the history of Taos and northern New Mexico is important and the selected candidate must be willing to use the provided reading resources to familiarize themselves with the subject matter.

Possession of a degree or an advanced student working towards a degree in art history, library and information science, or museum studies is highly desirable, but equivalent work experience may also be acceptable.

Please send a brief cover letter and CV to Marissa Hendriks, Archivist/Collections Manager by no later than November 15th, 2021: mhendriks@couse-sharp.org
