Job Summary:
Under the direction of the State Archives Manager, the Archivist II is responsible for providing professional archival services for the Oklahoma Department of Libraries’ State Archives unit. Applying their specialized knowledge and skills in archives, they work to preserve and provide access to historical records and primary sources created by the Oklahoma State Government. This process includes the transfer and processing of historical materials in various formats into the State Archives collection; the creation and maintenance of finding aids, indexes, and other collection retrieval tools; and the management of digital platforms for control of and access to collections.
Job Duties:
- Process materials and prepare finding aids, indexes, and other instruments to provide access (physical and intellectual) to collections; monitor the indexing, storage, and retrieval of materials.
- Aid researchers, government officials, and the public in accessing and utilizing archival materials.
- Plan and implement processes and methods for the preservation and conservation of archival collections.
- Appraise and acquire historical materials, such as documents, publications, and artifacts, ensuring their long-term accessibility and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in archival studies, library sciences, history, political science, or related degree plus two years of archival experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in applying archives and library description standards and principles, such as DACS and LCSH
- Proficiency in digital preservation systems, particularly Preservica, and digital asset management systems, such as CONTENTdm
- Experience with developing and executing digital preservation workflows
- Knowledge of digital preservation policies and protocols
- Strong knowledge of metadata standards such as Dublin Core, METS, PREMIS, etc.
- Experience with large metadata migration and cleanup projects
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of archival appraisal, processing and description, preservation, and management;
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of records and information management;
- Knowledge of various software applications;
- Knowledge of research principles, methods, and tools;
- Knowledge of agency policies, procedures and of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations related to records, publications, copyright, and archives; and
- Knowledge of practices and principles of training.
- Ability to analyze, organize, and interpret archival records systems;
- Ability to solve practical archival management problems;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and
- Ability to climb ladders, bend, squat, lift, kneel, and carry boxes weighing forty (40) pounds.
Salary Range $49,800-54,800 based on education and experience.
