Job Description:
UHCL Archives’ Clear Lake Area History Research Fellowship is being offered for a candidate to utilize its Clear Lake Area Collection and University Archives’ holdings to research general or specific historic events, developments, or people who resided in and/or worked within the greater Clear Lake Area and made an impact on the local communities’ developments. The research must cover a topic that has not been widely researched, written about, and/or has information widely available for the general public. The topic must be covered by the included general list of approved topics. The work resulting from the fellowship should feature at least two-thirds of its resources and information sources from the UHCL Archives’ holdings, where possible. The fellow will be hosted in the UHCL Archives’ public reading room for conducting their research.
The successful applicant will be expected to:
Spend 3-4 weeks between June and August of the fellowship year examining UHCL Archives’ Clear Lake Area Collection and University Archives holdings in support of their research.
Create and share a paper (minimum 20 pages, not including citations), to be submitted for publication to a US peer-reviewed journal, or a regional public history, history, or relevant topical journal.
Make a recorded presentation based on their work for upload to the UHCL Libraries’ YouTube page.
Provide a copy of their final paper for inclusion in and use by UHCL Archives and Special Collections for public history work, and to be reused for various public history purposes (such as supporting exhibits, video production, public programming, future publications, etc.). Fellows will be expected to sign an agreement with UHCL Archives allowing their work to be reused for a variety of purposes as determined by the Archives.
