Job Description:
The Congregation of Holy Cross in Austin, TX seeks an archivist with strong independent project management skills to bring together records from multiple sources into a single, coherent, usable internal archive.
The Congregation of Holy Cross is a Roman Catholic religious institute of priests and brothers whose main works are pastoral and educational. They are most well-known as the founders of the University of Notre Dame and St. Edward’s University. The Holy Cross Archives consists of the records of the Eastern Brothers, South-West and Moreau Provinces. Those records include materials related to governance, properties, schools, ministries, and personnel in addition to art works, photographs, and monographs.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
• Establish intellectual and physical control of collections spread across multiple storage locations.
• Coordinate the return of materials from offsite storage.
• Review, update, and create finding aids to facilitate internal use of records.
• Answer research requests from provincial administration.
• Develop and maintain budgets for archival projects.
• Set priorities and annual goals in discussion with provincial administration.
• Prepare entire collection for an eventual transfer to the University of Notre Dame (sometime after 2028).
Additional Duties:
• Processing and arrangement of manuscript and photographic materials.
• Maintain legacy database records.
• Digitization of materials.
• Present historical research to relevant groups.
• May be called upon to assist in other departments for special occasions.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program.
• 2-3 years of relevant archival experience.
• Self-directed and capable of managing responsibilities autonomously.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent multitasking and time management abilities.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to regularly lift boxes up to 30lbs.
• Proficient in Microsoft OSice.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn about Catholic institutions.
