    COPYRIGHT OFFICER

    The Albert B. Alkek Library at Texas State University – San Marcos is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Copyright Officer. This position reports to the Director of Research and Learning Services and provides expertise and support to the campus community on interpretation of copyright law, best practices, copyright education, assistance obtaining copyright permissions, and copyright policy development.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Provide expertise to scholars for their copyright related questions. Contribute to the University’s copyright policy implementation. Serve in a leadership role on the University’s copyright advisory committee. Develop and promote copyright educational programs. Monitor and communicate legislative developments and case law relevant to copyright and alert library and university leadership accordingly. Partner with library staff on copyright and scholarly communication initiatives, notably in the development of a scholarly communication program. Serve in interim roles and assist with special projects as needed.  Engage in professional activities in accordance with Texas State University’s standards for promotion for professional librarians.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required: An ALA-accredited Master’s degree; knowledge of copyright and scholarly communication issues within higher education; ability to read and interpret complex federal regulations and recent case law, as it pertains to intellectual property and copyright; skill in program development, marketing, and assessment; professional public speaking ability; strong service orientation;  interpersonal and oral communication skills to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively, both as a team member and independently; demonstrated proficiency with personal computers and software, and the Web.

    Preferred: An ABA-accredited J.D. degree; leadership skills to guide teams utilizing project management principles and methodologies; proven instructional skills; demonstrated proficiency with relevant technology applications such as institutional repository software and integrated library systems.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS: $39,960 to $63,707 annually depending on assigned rank based on qualifications and experience. Available ranks include Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian and Librarian. Advancement in rank is available through the Librarian/ Curator Career Ladder. Benefits include monthly contribution to health insurance/benefits package and retirement program. No state or local income tax.
