    Project Archivist  

    Under the supervision of the Director of the Archives, the project archivist will evaluate the approximately 1,000 linear feet of archival material remaining to be processed in the Michael E. DeBakey, M.D., manuscript collection for historical and research importance. The project archivist will process the material using standard archival practices which include organizing and categorizing, entering into and maintaining archival storage and information database.

    Essential Functions and Duties:

    *Evaluates and inspects the collection items.
    *Preserves collection items according to archival principles including placing items in acid-free folders and boxes and removing material (paper clips, staples, etc.) that may damage the item.
    *Arranges, describes, and catalogs collection items.
    *Maintains archival storage and information database.
    *Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    Additional Information/Skills:
    *Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills.
    *Familiarity with preservation and conservation issues as they relate to archives.
    *Understanding of intellectual property issues as they relate to archives and manuscripts.
    *Ability to work effectively both autonomously and in a team setting with all levels of staff.
    *Ability to lift and move boxes of material weighing up to 40 pounds.

    Required: Master's degree in History or a related field. Preferred: Archival training.

    Required: Minimum 5 years directly related full-time archival experience including processing archival collections. Helpful: Prior experience in medical archives or with medical terminology.

    Preferred: ACA (Academy of Certified Archivists) certification.
