    Special Collections Audiovisual Archivist

    The University of Arkansas Libraries seek an innovative, versatile, and enthusiastic archival professional to provide leadership, manage, and expand the scope, size, and use of audiovisual collections in the Special Collections Department. Primary responsibilities include accessioning, arranging, describing, and creating finding aids for photographs, reel-to-reel tapes, audio cassettes, video tapes, and other formats; developing and implementing policies and procedures; identifying and addressing preservation issues; and working with colleagues to prioritize materials for digitization. The archivist will actively participate in providing reference and research support, planning, and outreach activities. The incumbent will work closely with the Libraries’ Development Office to establish and maintain donor relations, apply for grants, and seek other funding opportunities. The position reports to the Head of the Special Collections Department.

     

    In keeping with faculty requirements, the incumbent is expected to engage in scholarly research and creative work and service, and participate in local, state, and national organizations. The successful candidate must possess strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, archival knowledge, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a variety of constituents.

     

    Qualifications: Required:  A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program with a concentration in archival studies or a graduate degree in a related discipline, such as history, public history, political science, or other appropriate field; relevant experience with processing and preserving photographs, negatives, and other audiovisual materials, such as reel-to-reel tapes, VHS, etc.; demonstrated knowledge of archival data and/or digital asset management systems (such as Archives Space, Archon, Archivists’ Toolkit, or CONTENTdm); and familiarity with Encoded Archival Description, DACS, Dublin Core and/or other metadata standards and schemes.  Preferred qualifications: Archival Certification (Academy of Certified Archivists or the Society of American Archivists); knowledge of digital image scanning techniques and image capture and basic photograph and video editing; familiarity with copyright issues associated with audiovisual materials; knowledge of Arkansas history and bibliography; and knowledge of standards, best practices, and current trends in the preservation and re-formatting of archival audio and visual materials.

     

    Rank and Salary:  Tenure-track, twelve-month faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian / Assistant Professor.  Salary: $47,000.
