    The Austin History Center is hiring a Reference Archivist. The position will be filled at an Archivist I or II level, depending on qualifications. This position works a minimum of 8 hours per week at the Center’s reference desk, responds to emailed reference inquiries two days per week and to all inquiries received via postal mail, and provides training to other staff members on reference issues and topics. The position is also responsible for all content and user interactions on the AHC Facebook page, serves as webmaster of the AHC’s portion of the Austin Public Library’s website, coordinates the Austin History Center’s volunteers (averaging around 30 volunteers on board at any time), and regularly gives a variety of tours and research orientation classes to members of the public and departmental staff. The Reference Archivist handles all processing of text vertical file materials as well as maintenance of existing vertical files and their associated index, which serves as the controlled vocabulary for AHC subject descriptive subject heading assignments across all holdings. The Reference Archivist also participates in the arrangement and description of archives and manuscripts collections, and ingest and basic description of archival materials received in a digital format.  In rotation with other staff members, this position also serves occasionally as curator/researcher on Austin History Center exhibits.
