    ARCHIVIST POSITION R97463

    The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) invites applicants for an Archivist position at its primary facility at the Center for Arkansas History and Culture in the River Market District of downtown Little Rock.  UALR operates its Archives in partnership with the Central Arkansas Library System with which it works on a variety of initiatives.


    The UALR Center for Arkansas History and Culture houses archives at the Arkansas Studies Institute (ASI) is a research repository that includes Arkansas gubernatorial papers, Civil War materials, Civil Rights records, and many other collections of prominent citizens as well as social organizations that document the history of the state. The Archives consists of over 65,000 records in manuscript, photographic, map, and digital formats.


    Applicants will be expected to provide exceptional patron assistance, collection development advice, and have knowledge and use of basic manuscript processing techniques including familiarity with DACS and EAD for digital encoding of manuscript and archival finding aids.  Applicants also will assist in the coordination of educational and public outreach programs and must have excellent communication skills.  The ability to work effectively and collegially across units and departments is essential. Part of the position’s responsibility will include taking the lead on sorting, categorizing, arranging, and describing a large political collection processing project that is grant funded.


    Experience with Archivist's Toolkit is preferred.


    Required Qualifications:  Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in a field related to archives work and have two years of relevant experience.  A Master’s degree in a field related to archives work and two years of relevant experience is preferred.  The ability to lift a 40 lbs box is required.
