    Job Summary

    The Conference Archivist’s role in the Annual Conference is crucial to ensure that vital information is collected and preserved for the future. The Conference Archivist will collect, organize and preserve the historically significant records of the Annual Conference and its agencies, including data relating to the origin and history of the conference and its antecedents. The Conference Archivist will relate to and execute the mission, vision and policies of the Conference Commission on Archives and History. In addition, the Conference Archivist will provides excellent mission field oriented service and commitment to the Conference mission, “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Archives are the non-current records of the Conference that contain information of historical value including modern archival repository of photographs, films, video and sound recordings, computer tapes, and video and optical disks, as well as the more traditional records such as conference and church written records, unpublished letters, diaries, and other manuscripts.

     

    Archive information will include (but not limited to):

    • §  All official publications of the Conference.
    • §  Minutes of the Conference boards and agencies.
    • §  Records of the Conference office.
    • §  Reports of the District Superintendents and Conference camps.
    • §  Published and written histories of the Annual Conference and its antecedents.
    • §  Manuscripts and printed material related to the history of the Annual Conference, United Methodism, and their antecedents.
    • §  Historical records of all abandoned or discontinued churches in the bounds of the Annual Conference and its antecedents and the historical records of any active church that so requests it.
    • §  Personal papers of clergy, missionaries, deaconesses, and lay people associated with the Conference and its activities may be donated to the conference archives.

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists and Bachelor's degree plus advanced archival training either in a master's degree program or archival workshop OR Bachelor's degree plus two-five years or more of archival work experience that encompasses both processing and reference service. Supervisory capacity is a plus.
