    Processing Archivist (Contractor) Opportunity

     

    The Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) Archives seeks to hire a contract archivist on a contractual basis to preserve, arrange, and describe a small collection of scrapbooks, photographs, news clippings, and other archival materials related to the Taos painter Merina Lujan (Pop Chalee), which includes but is not limited to:

    • Arrange and describe the collection according to Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS) and other archival best practices
    • Perform scrapbook preservation according to Library of Congress “Preservation Basics: Preservation of Scrapbooks and Albums”
    • Re-house the collection into an acid-free environment
    • Create Encoded Archival Description (EAD) record for publication on Rocky Mountain Online Archive
    • Assist photographer and project staff in the photography of scrapbook pages
    • Other duties as assigned

    Experience and Education Requirements

    • B.A. of Museum Studies or associated field
    • Archival processing experience
    • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends, standards, and practices of archival services
    • Strong knowledge of Encoded Archival Description (EAD)
    • PREFERRED: Strong background in American Indian History, preferably in the field of art
    • PREFERRED: Experience with digitization process and standards
    • This position is a contracted engagement opportunity with may last up to 8 months depending on completion of work
    • Hours are flexible
    • Total project budget for this engagement is $2,400.00
    • Contractor positions are not eligible for benefits
