    The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is accepting applications for the position of Education-Outreach Coordinator in the Archives and Information Services Division.

     

    The agency is located in the Lorenzo de Zavala Building at 1201 Brazos Street in Austin. This is a full-time, exempt position, State Job Code: 1832, Salary Admin Plan: B , Grade: 19 with a starting monthly salary of $3,835 to $4,100 ($46,028-$49,200 annual).

    SUMMARY

    Performs highly complex(senior level) informational and education work in the Archives and Information Services division for the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.  Collects, prepares, and produces educational materials for use by the division.  Assists with the development of online and in-house educational exhibits. Coordinates outreach events and provides presentations. Serves as principle assistant to the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board.  Works under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

     

    ESSENTIAL TASKS

    Coordinate outreach activities to engage stakeholders, stimulate interest in division programs, and increase use of the division’s collection and services

    Assist with the planning and development of educational exhibits

    Assume lead responsibilities in developing and presenting educational programs, presentations and materials

    Implements program goals and objectives in the area of assignment

    Serve as principle assistant to the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board

    Coordinate, prepare and post information for the agency’s web site and intranet, division blogs, web pages, and social media outlets

    Prepare grant proposals and applications for educational and outreach activities

    Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies

    Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct

     

    NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS

    Provide formal tours and introductions to the collections and services for various groups

    Responds to general information inquiries about division activities, exhibits and educational activities

    Assist with special events

    Serve on agency, state and national committees as assigned

    Perform other job duties as assigned

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with degree in Education, English, History, Communications or related field

    Three years experience preparing and delivering educational materials, programs, and/or presentations

    One year experience presenting information both orally and in writing

    Demonstrated ability to develop educational materials for a variety of audiences

    Excellent technical and creative writing skills

    Ability to perform intensive research independently

    Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing

    Ability to interpret and comply with internal policies and procedures

    Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines

    Ability to make in-person presentations

    Ability to handle multiple priorities in a high stress environment

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Master’s degree in Education, English, History, Communications or related field

    Experience working in an archives, museum, library or cultural heritage institution

    Grant writing experience

    College level coursework in Texas history

    Experience in exhibit design and installation

     

    Veterans, Reservist or Guardsmen with an MOS or additional duties that fall in the fields Army 46A; Navy 165RL; Coast Guard 03; Marines 4302; Air Force 35PL 3, 4, or other related fields pertaining to the minimum experience requirements may meet the minimum qualifications for this position and are highly encouraged to apply.     OTHER REQUIREMENTS & INFORMATION

    Grant and Educational material writing examples to be submitted at time of application

    Ability to work overtime, including holidays, nights, and weekends may be involved

    Ability to travel overnight as required

    Ability to work in a non-smoking environment

    Criminal history check required upon contingent offer

     

    SUPERVISION

    Reports to the Director of Archives and Information Services

    No supervisory responsibility
