    The Special Libraries Division of the University of North Texas Libraries is seeking to hire a Project Archivist for a unique opportunity to appraise, process and create descriptive tools to facilitate preservation and access to archival materials held by Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). The Project Archivist will work on location at DART headquarters in Dallas, Texas. Work will be performed in consultation with senior DART staff and will be supervised remotely by the department head of Special Collections at UNT Libraries. The Project Archivist position may require some travel to the UNT campus in Denton. This is a one-year term position.

    Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

    * Survey existing archival materials in a variety of formats including paper, audio/visual and electronic records
    * Create detailed processing plans and reports to document work activities
    * Assists in development of a collection development policy for the DART Archive
    * Ensures compliance with policies and procedures for the acquisition, security, arrangement, description, preservation of and access to the collection
    * Creates documentation processes and procedures as required
    * Implement uniform arrangement and description standards and ensures that materials are efficiently and effectively processed
    * Ensures access to collections through inventories, finding aids, and other descriptive means
    * Apply accepted standards for archival description including Encoded Archival Description (EAD) and Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS)
    * Collaborate with staff and librarians at UNT
    * Select materials for digitization and/or select digital records for preservation in the UNT Digital Library/Portal to Texas History
    * Create metadata for digital archival materials as required
    * Participate in oral history projects as required
    * Supervise student assistants as required
