    Purpose of Position:

    This position will manage and direct all aspects of archival work for Archives Bureau. This includes establishing and monitoring goals, policies and procedures relating to the appraisal, arrangement, cataloging, description, imaging, preservation, and access of public records regardless of format. The Chief will provide supervision and evaluation of professional staff, participates in hiring and discipline of staff. Monitor schedules for operation of research rooms.


    This position is a Pay Band 75.

    Minimum Qualifications

    A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment.  Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.  A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience.  Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.


    Employment Requirements: 

    The applicant will have a background in Archival Management, Library Science or other related field, and will be familiar with New Mexico history and statutes relating to public records and maintain archival certification. Ability to read and translate Spanish documents. Excel & Word applications.


    Working Conditions: 

    Requires long hours of computer data entry, viewing microfilm, lifting and moving boxes & books up to 50 lbs. on a daily basis, handling delicate and soiled documents and archival material. Professional office setting, some travel may be required. Work assignments are carried out in a team approach. Requires working with public which may involve stressful situations. Work performed in an archival setting to national archival standards.
