    Position Summary

    The Library Associate provides research services for Rare Books Collections, manages rare books stacks, tracks collections use and reference requests, contributes to developing procedures and policies, contributes to departmental goals and initiatives, collaborates with the Coordinator for Scholarly Resources for the Humanities and the Director of Special Collections to select materials for acquisition, participates in professional development opportunities, and other duties as assigned.


    Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/Competencies typically needed to perform this job successfully: 

    • Ability to function fully and competently at technology competency I and II outline in HTML Core Technology Competencies for Employees (see http://library.tulane.edu/sites/library.tulane.edu./files/documents/core_technology_competencies.pdf)

    • Ability to identify and handle fragile materials with care

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and time management skills

    • Ability to work in a team-based environment and be responsive to changing priorities

    • Ability to lift heavy books and boxes, bend, push heavy book trucks

    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree

     OR

    High school diploma or equivalent and at least 6 years of relevant experience


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in a Humanities related field

    • Training or experience using rare books or other primary source materials

    • Working experience in a library, archives, or museum

    • Experience providing reference assistance

    • Experience recruiting, training, and providing feedback for staff or students

    • Experience with or training in library and archives standards and vocabularies such as DACS, EAD, LCSH, and LCNAF

    • Training or experience providing instruction in collaboration with archivists, librarians, faculty, or students
