In honor of the 50th anniversary of Georgia State University’s Special Collections & Archives, they are working to establish the Dr. David B. Gracy II Graduate Research Assistantship for Special Collections and Archives.  Named for our founding archivist, Dr. David B. Gracy II, this endowment will provide funding for the department to hire a GSU graduate student from our Public History program to create innovative new ways of promoting the importance of archives throughout the Atlanta community.

Hired in 1971, Dr. Gracy founded the Southern Labor Archives and shortly thereafter, the University Archives. In addition to building the archives, David taught archival enterprise and history courses at GSU and DeKalb Community College (later Georgia Perimeter College and now part of GSU). He was a lifelong advocate for the archival profession.  The creation of this Graduate Research Assistantship at Georgia State University, one of the most diverse colleges and universities in the U.S., is a befitting honor to his legacy of teaching and advocacy.

In honor of David’s legacy, the Georgia State University Library has embarked on an ambitious journey to establish the Dr. David B. Gracy II Graduate Research Assistantship for Special Collections & Archives as part of its 50th anniversary celebrationsI hope you will join me in making a donation to establish this endowment.  To learn more and make a donation, visit our crowdfunding page

Please share widely.  Thank you for your support! #GracyGRA
