    Hello--

There will be a new event in conjunction with the SAA's annual meeting this year. You can read more about it below. If you're going to SAA, are in one of the targeted areas (Oklahoma, Arkansas, Arizona and Louisiana) and can participate, please let me know and I'll put you in touch with the organizers.

As part of this year’s SAA Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, along with SAA, CoSA, and NAGARA, RAAC is excited to announce a new event: Archives on the Hilla daylong advocacy program for archivists. Prior to the Annual Meeting, we’ll train participants in key advocacy skills through a series of webinars. Then, on August 14th, we’ll spend the day meeting with Congressional staffers in small groups to talk about specific issues in our profession pertaining to funding, copyright, and electronic records.

We are hoping to talk to legislators currently serving on committees that determine the allocation of federal arts and education budgets. Here are the relevant legislators in your region:

    • Senator James Lankford. Serving the state of Oklahoma.
    • Senator John Kennedy. Serving the state of Louisiana.
    • Senator John Boozman. Serving the state of Arkansas.
    • Senator John McCain. Serving the state of Arizona.

And so folks are aware, SSA is supporting this effort monetarily as well by making a donation to the project. So any volunteerism will help continue and reinforce the organization's efforts to advocate for our profession.
