Clemson University Libraries seeks an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented Digital Collections Archivist. This faculty member will provide leadership and expertise in the collection, transfer, storage, description, and preservation of born-digital and digitized materials, including developing workflows, policies, and procedures that help staff carry out these tasks. The Digital Collections Archivist works across manuscript collections and the university archives on digital archiving projects. The incumbent will contribute to Library wide digital and preservation projects in collaboration with appropriate colleagues.
Library faculty are members of the academic community, with responsibilities in the areas of librarianship, scholarship, and service. This is a 12-month tenure-track position accountable to the Head of Special Collections and Archives.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborates with Special Collections and Archives colleagues to appraise, process, and describe donations that include born-digital and/or digitized materials
- Prioritizes processing for digital materials and creates and updates finding aids for digital and digitized materials to facilitate preservation, retrieval, and access
- Coordinates the transfer of digital and digitized material from current and legacy media formats and uses forensic and other tools to ensure authenticity, fixity, preservation, and access
- Manages departmental digitization work, including creating and monitoring processes and workflows, and liaises with colleagues in the Digitization Lab to coordinate scanning projects
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for the management of born digital and digitized materials held in the department
- Leads the department’s web archiving activities
- In collaboration with Libraries colleagues, maintains the department’s content management system
- Contributes to Library wide digital projects and digital preservation efforts
- Promotes the university’s history through reference, research, publication, and instruction
- Engages in professional development such as attending conferences, workshops, and webinars related to job functions
Required Qualifications:
- An ALA-accredited graduate degree in librarianship or other relevant graduate degree in another scholarly field as deemed appropriate by the Libraries
- One year experience working in an archives or special collections environment, including digitization projects and working with digital archives
- Demonstrated experience using archival collection management software
- Knowledge of tools and software that capture, manage, and deliver born-digital and digitized materials
- Evidence of knowledge of current trends in the archival profession, particularly in relation to born digital and digitized content
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within, and across, teams
Salary and Benefits:
Faculty rank and a minimum salary of $70,000 based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Various medical plans, dental plans, and retirement plans are available. 18 days annual leave, 15 days sick leave, 13 paid holidays, and liberal professional development leave are provided. Library faculty receive an individual stipend for travel or other professional development activity.
