    Job Summary

    The Louisiana State Archives in Baton Rouge seeks a full-time Archives Specialist dedicated to creating large-scale exhibitions that showcase the Archives' collections. The candidate will generate creative displays applying exhibition principles and conservation considerations. This position reports to the Supervisor of Conservation Services to aid in developing, coordinating, implementing and administering the agency's exhibition programming. An ideal candidate should possess the following competencies:.

    • Communicating Effectively: The ability to relay information correctly and appropriately to connect people and ideas.
    • Developing Plans: The ability to prioritize tasks and competing demands to create accurate plans.
    • Displaying Expertise: The ability to exhibit specialized skills or knowledge gained from experience or training

    Job Duties:

    • Produce and manage internal exhibitions, executing multiple project components throughout a calendar year.
    • Research selected topics, synthesizing findings into interpretive text through a framework of cultural awareness.
    • Select, inventory and rehouse exhibition items.
    • Manage loan agreements and lender relationships.
    • Assist Supervisor with condition reports and creation of reproductions for display.
    • Identify display needs and manufacture or procure materials.
    • Design display layouts and accompanying graphics.
    • Transport art and artifacts utilizing in-state travel.
    • Conduct programming and outreach such as lectures, events, guided tours, press releases, social media ports, and content for news outlets.
    • Use appropriate tools for skilled installation.
    • Complete regular conservation training opportunities.
    • Attend related in-house evening events.

    Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional

    Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Archives Specialist 1, 2 or 3

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Three years of experience in historical research, archival operations, records management, records preservation, or college-level teaching in a humanities field; OR
    • Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR
    • A bachelor's degree.
    • Experience Substitution:
      • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

    Salary Range: $2,922.00 - $5,734.00 Monthly
