Job Summary
The Senior Research Assistant position is a full-time position with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's Archives & Collections Department. With direction from the Sequoyah National Research Center's Archivist, the Project Archivist will be responsible for processing, rehousing, creating and finding aid for the Paul DeMain Papers, a large collection of mixed formats (45 cubic feet). This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institutional policy.
Job Duties
- Surveys Paul DeMain Papers and plans a processing strategy with SNRC Archivist;
- Arranges, describes, preserves, and makes accessible Paul DeMain Papers according to archival standards and best practices;
- Assists with maintenance of the library and archives collection, including shelving and shifting;
- Assists the archivist and director in providing patron assistance at the Center;
- Provides support for events and activities in the Center;
- Assists with giving tours of the Center and providing general reference assistance when appropriate;
- Participates in professional development opportunities, such as conferences and workshops;
- Creates catalog records and detailed finding aid for collection using ArchivEra according to Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution with emphasis in archival studies;
- At least one year of professional archival processing experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with ArchivEra;
- Demonstrated experience processing a large collection;
- Demonstrated work experience in American Indian/Alaska Native archives and special collections.
Salary: $48,000
