    Position Summary

    The Associate Librarian (Archivist) is a Continuing-Eligible Academic Professional position in the Collections Division of the Arizona State Museum (ASM) at the University of Arizona (UA). The incumbent serves as the Head of the Arizona State Museum Library and Archives (ASMLA). ASM’s Library is a specialized research collection of more than 100,000 volumes focusing on the archaeology and anthropology of the U.S. Southwest and northern Mexico. ASM’s Archives include manuscripts and other documents, maps, and sound recordings related to the archaeology and ethnology of the U.S. Southwest and northern Mexico. The incumbent provides professional leadership, strategic direction, and curatorial oversight for this premier anthropological library and archival collection. Other duties include conducting and disseminating original research, engaging in teaching and other educational activities, professional service, and community outreach. The incumbent works in coordination with the Head of Collections and reports to the Director of ASM.


    Supervision is received from the Director through periodic reports and direct personal contact, but the incumbent regularly consults with and coordinates activities with the Head of Collections. Independence in management and program development is exercised in most aspects of the position. Assignments are continuous in nature and effectiveness is evaluated through results obtained.
