Society of Southwest Archivists

About the Society of Southwest Archivists

SSA serves over 500 archivists, special collections librarians, preservationists, conservators, records managers, and others interested in the preservation of our documentary heritage. The six states in our region are Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas, but our members come from almost every state and several countries.

Charter membership in the Society of Southwest Archivists opened May 5, 1972, and remained open through June 8 of that year. An organizational meeting was held in the Fall of 1972, in Denton, Texas, at North Texas State University and Texas Woman’s University. The following summer (1973) a conference was held in Norman, Oklahoma, inaugurating SSA’s annual meeting tradition.
