Theme: Liberté. Egalité. Fraternité: GLAM Revolution in a Changing Climate
In the last decade, Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAMs) have navigated profound change amidst a shifting climate? political, meteorological, technological, and beyond. Archivists have a crucial role in upholding liberty and equality within GLAMs and leading the charge in this era of transformation. The Society of Southwest Archivists invites proposals for our 2025 Annual Meeting, themed "Liberté. Egalité. Fraternité: GLAM Revolution in a Changing Climate." This theme challenges us to explore how we are reshaping GLAMs, adapting strategies, and defending our profession against external pressures.
Proposal Topics May Include:
- Revolutionizing GLAMs: Innovative approaches and transformative initiatives within archives, libraries, museums, and galleries.
- Adaptation Strategies: Techniques and frameworks for navigating the complexities of a rapidly evolving environment.
- Resilience and Resistance: Addressing challenges to the profession and advocating for its enduring relevance.
Presentation Formats:
- Panel Discussion: A group of panelists discuss a specific topic, presenting different perspectives with audience interaction.
- Roundtable Discussion: Informal discussion among participants seated around a table, sharing insights and ideas on a particular topic.
- Lightning Talk: A quick, focused panel presentation with each individual presentation lasting 5 minutes or less to convey key points or ideas succinctly followed by a more intensive group discussion
- Skills Training: Workshops aimed at teaching specific skills or techniques relevant to GLAMS.
- Lunch Meeting / Lunch Discussion: Informal session during a mealtime where participants discuss topics or network in a relaxed setting.
Proposal Details: Please submit an abstract (300 words maximum) outlining your presentation. We will have completely virtual and completely in person panels.
Deadline: Proposals must be submitted no later than November 15, 2024.
Hybrid Meeting Format: The 2025 Annual Meeting will be held both in-person in Lafayette, Louisiana, and virtually, allowing for broader participation and engagement. We aim to accept the same number of in-person presentations as virtual and we are encouraging in-person presentations for those able to attend. Unlike our hybrid meeting in Albuquerque, we are not accepting proposals for panels with a mix of in-person and virtual presentations. In-person and virtual panels will not be held concurrently to encourage virtual participation and in-person participation equally.
Submission Instructions: Please submit your proposals in this Google Form and direct any inquiries to program@southwestarchivists.org. Please note that consent to record for the conference is included in the proposal submission form. If anyone involved in your proposal does not consent to recording, please indicate that on this form.
Join us in Lafayette as we explore how archivists can adapt and support one another amidst a changing climate and lead the GLAM revolution. Together, we can shape the future of our profession.
