The Santa Fe Desert Chorale is a non-profit performing arts organization based in Santa Fe, NM. Our stated mission is to excite, engage, and inspire diverse audiences with the beauty and power of great choral music. We seek a project archivist to organize our decades of organizational records.

    About the Project:
After over 41 years of existence and several administrators, the organization’s records need to be processed, described, and preserved. The need is both administrative and historic: staff face workflow inefficiencies, due to the absence of records management practices, and there is interest in writing a history of the organization.

Materials include valuable donor information and records, as well as public-facing materials such as programs, conductors’ edited scores, program reviews and clippings, as well as information about the many professional singers who have been part of the Chorale. The ideal candidate will be committed to protecting the Chorale’s valuable history and will also enjoy working as part of a collaborative team that values a professional, yet fun, work environment.

    Responsibilities:

    • Communicate with administrative and operations staff regarding their needs.
    • Develop and institute records management policies and procedures.
    • Organize, process, describe, and preserve SFDC administrative and artistic records, employing “More Product, Less Process” practices.
    • Create retention schedules and filing systems.
    • Collaborate with the New Mexico History Museum archivist to ensure safe transfer of retained documents to that repository.
    • Identify confidential records (i.e. financial and/or donor information) and recommend policies for maintaining relevant security and privacy.

    Qualifications
    Required:

    • One to two years demonstrable archival and/or records management experience, with evidence of direct experience with organizational records and documents.
    • Familiarity with “More Product, Less Process” standards of archival organization.
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Archival training in a recognized program.
    • Demonstrable ability to work without close supervision. Evidence of strong communication skills within an organization.

    Preferred:

    • Master’s degree in: library and information science, or archival studies, or public history, with evidence of archival training.
    • Society of American Archivists “Arrangement & Description” certification and/or the SAA Digital Archives Specialist certification.
    • Experience with archival collections management systems.

    Compensation
Salary: $28.00 – $30.00 per hour, not to exceed $10,000/year.
This phase of the project is supported in part by a grant from the New Mexico Historical Records Advisory Board. This is the first year of what we anticipate will be a multi-year project.

    Benefits:

    • Flexible schedule
    • Collegial work environment

    Schedule:

    • Flexible hours
    • No weekends

Work Location: In-person, at Santa Fe Desert Chorale offices
