The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is seeking candidates for a Digitization Fellow of Cataloging which supports digitization and provides public access to the correspondence and ephemera contained within the museum’s Artist Archives collections. This is a 2-year full time position with benefits. He/she is responsible for handling archival materials; creating KEMu database records to represent archival objects; performing OCR on textual documents; cross-referencing related database records; and publishing records and images to the museum’s IMu interface.
Responsibilities
- · Document and catalog archival materials in collection management system according to museum and industry standards.
- · Apply established metadata standards to new or legacy collection records for ingesting into collection management system.
- · Assess and prioritize archival materials for digitization.
- · Coordinate day-to-day movement of archival materials.
- · Perform OCR on textual documents.
- · Cross-reference archives records with related records for the museum’s art collection, exhibitions, and artists within KEMu.
- · Publish records and images to the museum’s IMu interface.
- · Import digital multimedia files to collection management system for in-house and public access.
- · Assist the project team with interface and data organization planning and best practices.
- · Make judgments about proper object handing and representation in collection management system.
- · Collaborate with project team to determine best practices, benchmarks, and project workflows.
- · Work closely with project team to manage photography workflow and object handling. Record and interpret cataloging statistics for project reports and reviews.
- · Assist with maintenance of archival files and records as needed.
- · Maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive museum information; other duties as assigned.

Skills and Requirements
- · Knowledge of standard archival collections cataloging practices.
- · Experience using collection management systems, particularly KEMu.
- · Experience transforming and migrating data from legacy sources.
- · Experience using Windows.
- · Proficiency with MS Office products.
- · Excellent written communication skills

Qualifications/Education
- · Minimum undergraduate degree in art history, English, history, library sciences, or related field; MSIS or MLS degree preferred.
- · Experience handling archival or other rare/fragile materials in a museum, library, or educational setting.
