Greetings, Archives, Museum, and Library Colleagues,
Continuing education classes from the Society of American Archivists are high-quality and useful on-the-job. This fall, we’re going to reduce the often-prohibitive cost of traveling to attend.
Last fall UNM’s Center for Southwest Studies hosted a full week of in-person training offerings by the SAA, training essential for institutions with digital materials. Building on the success of these sessions, we’re looking to bring a new set of relevant trainings here, to beautiful Santa Fe.
The plan is to hold these courses in late October 2014. These courses are being brought by the State of New Mexico’s Department of Cultural Affairs.
Class time:
Each course below is a day-long, in-person training session conducted by a recognized expert in the field.
If there is enough interest, we may be able to host the full week of courses. These could be selected from, cafeteria-style.
Cost:
Each course typically has the following cost, with discounts for members.
The first price reflects an Early-Bird registration discount, and the second price is the regular cost:
SAA Member $189 / $249
Employees of Member Institutions $219 / $279
Nonmember $249 / $299
Sometimes there is available a discount for registering for a full week of courses.
Who should attend:
The SAA lists various courses as particularly useful for practitioners or for managers. A number of course are listed as useful for librarians, IT professionals, museum professionals, records managers, etc. These identifications are below, with the links to the course descriptions.
For those interested in pursuing the SAA's Digital Archives Specialist certificate, this set of courses meets the in-person training requirements. (http://www2.archivists.org/prof-education/das/curriculum-structure )
