I’d like to put together a session proposal on preserving Institutional history/memory. This is something that we all have to deal with at some point, particularly when long time staff members retire. But what happens when an early retirement incentive package is sent out and suddenly several long time staffers decide to retire? This is the situation I have found myself in. In the span of one month, a package offer was sent out and 18 people decided to take it. They possess a combined 400 years of institutional memory. Add to this that our 100th anniversary is coming up and the dean wants me to create an oral history of the school and my life got very busy, very quickly. There are a lot of challenges to preserving institutional memory, including software/hardware issues, born digital content, lack of cooperation, lack of understanding, etc.  I think it’s an interesting topic and speakers could talk on a variety of topics. If you are interested in participating, please email me!

    Thanks!
