Dr. Hector P. Garcia Fellowship
The Mary and Jeff Bell Library at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Fellowship. The purpose of the Fellowship award is to encourage scholarly research using the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Papers.
The Award
One annual award of $1,000 will be made. To receive the award the Fellow, or a proxy researcher engaged by the Fellow, will be required to conduct research in residence at TAMU-CC Special Collections and Archives. The Fellow also will be required to write a brief (maximum 1,000 words) overview of their research results, to submit a brief C.V. (3-5 pages), and to be interviewed about their Fellowship experience and outcomes for a web feature to be hosted and shared by the Mary and Jeff Bell Library. The Fellow will receive half of the award prior to commencing research and half upon completion of the stated expectations.
Eligibility
Faculty, graduate students, and independent researchers are eligible to apply for the Fellowship. Research visits to Special Collections and Archives must be scheduled between June 1 and December 15, 2019, in order to receive funding.
Application Procedure
Applicants should demonstrate the specific relevance of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Papers to their research through their 1,000-word overview and a cover letter. Essential information about the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Papers may be found at http://library.tamucc.edu/dept/special/hpgarcia.html, including the finding aid that describes the papers, a digital exhibit that provides an overview of his life, and the digitized items from his papers that have been made available in the TAMU-CC Repository.
The deadline for applications is March 1, 2019. The recipient will be notified by April 1, 2019.
Please submit the following materials with your application:
- An overview (1,000 words maximum) describing your research focus and the specific goals of your planned research during the Fellowship.
- A brief C.V. (3-5 pages).
- The dates of your anticipated residence in Special Collections and Archives.
- One letter of reference indicating the significance of the proposed research. Letters may be sent directly from the recommender or included in the application packet.
