Rodeo Round Up
Chair: Gerrianne Schaad, National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum
The mythic culture of the American West is alive and bucking in the sport of rodeo. This panel will
address the issues and challenges of developing a rodeo archive, including a collection strategy,
processing and preserving the collections, and attracting a worldwide audience to use them. The
discussion will center on the Dickinson Research Center’s recent experience with the Rodeo
Historical Society Records. Through presenting hands‐on experience of the tasks necessary to
preserve such a significant element of rodeo history, the panel will show the importance of
collecting rodeo history.
