Preserving History: Hip Hop, Paul Miller and Oklahoma
Chair: Robin Leech, Oklahoma State University
Each collection or project presents unique processing challenges, and these issues are compounded
when dealing with nontraditional formats, materials, departmental collaboration and collaborative
metadata creation. Among the collections discussed will be the newly‐acquired Houston Hip Hop
Collections at the University of Houston and their associated privacy and security issues. The
second panelist will discuss the challenges of processing several hundred newspaper editorials and
the collaborative creation of metadata. The final speaker will describe a statewide digital collection
of historic serials and the challenges of locating issues at disparate archives, and digitizing from
microfilm, poorly bound government documents and crumbling paper.
