Hands-on Disaster Recovery Training, Audiovisual Collections

Individuals employed by a cultural heritage institution (library, archives, museum, historical society, etc.) are invited to participate in a one-day workshop to learn techniques for salvaging audiovisual materials in the event of a disaster affecting your institution’s collections.

Kara Van Malssen, Senior Consultant for AVPreserve, will lead the workshop where attendees will learn important properties of audiovisual materials to recognize in a disaster, performing effective triage of AV materials in a disaster, basic salvage procedures, cleaning and drying different types of AV, developing workflows for large salvage operations, and incorporating these learned skills into disaster plans.

The workshop will be held at the Algiers Branch Library (3014 Holiday Drive, Algiers, LA), and will run from 10am-4pm on May 20, 2016.

Please register at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1I2PufYrKiMEFcWlR_b3fnuWhq2M_RBCvQBXkOS-bS8c/viewform?usp=send_form or via the short URL at http://goo.gl/forms/jtoq6cyzAz.

**Please note: participation is limited to 20 people. Institutions are asked to initially register one representative through May 13th. After that date, institutions will be able to register additional representatives for any remaining spots.

This workshop is sponsored by Tulane University and supported by a Preservation Assistance Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
