The Centre for Organisational and Social Informatics at Monash University is pleased to announce the forthcoming eighth International Conference on the History of Records and Archives to be held in Melbourne from May 28-30, 2017. Previous I-CHORA conferences took place in Toronto (2003), Amsterdam (2005), Boston (2007), Perth (2008), London (2010), Austin (2012) and Amsterdam (2015).
The theme of the conference is: Archives in a Changing Climate. The conference theme allows for exploration of the interconnections between histories and theories of archives and archival institutions in the context of the multiple changing climates in which archives have been created, transmitted, preserved and reactivated over time. Areas of focus, and possible topics, will include:
Changing Social and Cultural Climates, for example:
· Convergence
· Identity and memory
· Ethics and values
Changing Technological Climates, for example:
· Media, materials and infrastructures
· Standards and deviations
· Modes of communication
Changing Political Climates, for example:
· Diasporas and displacement
· Secrecy and openness
· Impact of globalisation
Changing Environmental Climates, for example:
· Conservation and preservation issues
· Sustainability
· Preventing and managing disasters
Proposals for 20 minute papers are invited. Abstracts of 450-500 words and a short bio should be submitted via Easychair https://easychair.org/cfp/ICHORA8 by October 15, 2017. We will advise acceptance by December 15, 2017 . Following the conference, presenters may be invited to submit their contributions for a peer-reviewedpublication.
