    This session comes at a time when museums and art communities are exploring their relevance and relationships to the communities they serve. This highly interactive session will provide participants with a framework to examine ideologies of difference; explore personal identity and social location; and develop next steps to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Texas arts and culture community.

    This workshop is presented by the Texas Historical Commission, the Houston Endowment, and the Texas Association of Museums.

    Protecting Minors in Museums

    Reggie Miller, of the Office of Governance and Risk Manager of the Youth Protection and Compliance program at Baylor University, outlines what museums can do to minimize the threat of child abuse, recognize the signs of child abuse, and to respond promptly and effectively should abuse be observed, suspected, or disclosed.

    THC Preservation Awards

    The Texas Historical Commission offers awards to recognize worthy accomplishments and exemplary leadership in the preservation of Texas’ heritage. These awards include the John L. Nau, III Award of Excellence in Museums award. The application cycle for this year’s awards is now open. The deadline to submit all required forms is July 31. Guidelines, submission forms, and descriptions for the awards are available on the THC website’s preservation awards page.


    Texas Historical Commission’s Real Places Conference

    Registration is now open for REAL PLACES, THC’s historic preservation and heritage tourism conference, which encourages individuals or communities who are passionate about seeking out, saving, and leveraging the real places and real stories of our communities. You can apply for a hotel stipend to cover your lodging costs at the bottom of the Real Places webpage.
