    Why does the job exist?

    The Visitor Services Supervisor manages activities directly associated with public visitation, revenue generation, and financial administration at the New Mexico History Museum. The supervisor also ensures that these activities are well coordinated with other museum functions and supports implementation of the museum's strategic plan.

    How does it get done?

    This position directly supervises the museum's special events coordinator (Business Ops Spec) and the Financial Specialist Supervisor who, in turn, supervises two cashiers (Customer Service Representatives).

    Working in conjunction with this team and in coordination with other museum staff--most especially the security staff and other program specialists--the Visitor Services Supervisor is responsible for:
    (1) Ensuring that initial visitor contacts--including:ticketing, orientation, support services, and scheduling of tours--are conducted in a courteous, timely, and professional manner.
    (2) Maximizing revenue generation through visitor attendance and space rental for special events.
    (3) Coordinating advertising for museum exhibitions, programs, and activities through the department's Office of Marketing
    and Communications.
    (4) Ensuring that the museum's financial management system operates in a clear, timely, and accountable manner.

    In addition to supervision and management, this position is expected to personally assist with front desk operations, financial management activities, and special events, as circumstances require.

    This position's schedule will run Sunday through Thursday.

    Who are the customers?

    Museum visitors and internal museum staff are primary beneficiaries of work done by this position.

    Ideal Candidate

    (1) Experience managing a high volume visitor services program.
    (2) Experience managing a complex calendar of events involving space utilization and staffing.
    (3) Experience promoting public programs through various forms of advertising and marketing.
    (4) Experience with financial administration including budget formulation, payments, tracking account balances, and placing orders for goods or services.
    (5) Experience supervising a group of two or more employees.

    Minimum Qualification

    A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment.
