Position Description
Reporting to the Associate Director of the UHCL Archives and Special Collections (Archives), the Library Associate, Archives, will assist in processing archival collections, reference work and filling duplication requests for the Johnson Space Center History Collection and other holdings, and assist in supervising volunteers and interns.
Brief Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
- · Processes collections under the supervision of the Associate Director, and in keeping with the UHCL Archives processing manual
- · Provides reference services to UHCL staff, students, and researchers in locating and reproducing materials
- · Assists the Associate Director in helping and supervising Archives volunteers and interns
- · Assists with managing and maintaining the archives in the absence of the Associate Director, including making or deferring decisions within department guidelines
- · Communicates with archives constituents and colleagues, including with the Archives’ partners at the Johnson Space Center History Office regarding the Johnson Space Center History Collection housed at the UHCL Archives
Qualifications
Required:
- · Two years (60 college credit hours) of courses from an accredited college, or an Associate of Arts Degree
- · Minimum 1 year experience working in archives or historical society, including work processing archival collections and providing archival reference services
- · Basic computer, phone, photocopying, and scanning skills; familiarity with MS Word, MS Excel, email, and databases
- · Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with the public and university staff
- · Possess excellent oral and written communication skills in order to respond to researchers, staff, faculty, and students
- · Ability to work independently
- · Ability to handle detail work with accuracy
- · Ability to multi-task a variety of projects
