A Librarian job is available with the City of Fort Worth in the Library for the Genealogy, Local History and Archives (GLHA) Unit, currently located in the Central Library. The ideal candidate for this position is customer-focused, enthusiastic about bringing genealogy, local history, and archives library services with a focus on digital collections to adults and youth in the community; and comfortable working with diverse populations including people of all ages, backgrounds, dispositions, and abilities. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of professional librarian duties including performing genealogy, local history, archives, and general reference and bibliographic instruction; providing information and assistance to customers of all ages; designing and implementing high-interest programs, workshops, and classes at multiple locations; building relationships with community organizations, maintenance and growth of digital archives collections, and providing technology support and instruction. This role will include participation in planning and preparation as the GLHA unit undergoes a re-imagining and transformation into the Fort Worth History Center, which will operate in a standalone location.

The Digital Archivist Librarian job responsibilities include:
- Champions the Library’s strategic goals and initiatives with the system’s mission, vision, and core values in mind.
- Provides reference services for requests (received in-person, by mail, email, or telephone) utilizing specialized local history, archival, and genealogical materials in a wide variety of formats (including automated genealogical databases, digital content management system, and archives management system) and assists customers in the use of facilities and services.
- Facilitates access to digital archives collections through digitization, creation of descriptive metadata, storage, preservation, and organization.
- Assists with the arrangement and description of archival collections in various media; creates finding aids, inventories, and other access points according to professional and local standards and procedures under the guidance of an Archivist.
- Assists with, designs, and presents programs/workshops for youth and adults on local history and genealogical topics, to be delivered to target audiences on-site, and at other library and community facilities.
- Maintains and develops assigned areas of the Library collection for increased engagement, to support the goals and initiatives of the library system, and to meet the needs of the local community; and maintains and classifies vertical files.
- Participates in the promotion of library services and resources; gives department tours to groups; and assists in the preparation of informational handouts for public distribution including calendars and flyers.
- Provides customers with self-service and other technology assistance.
- Contributes to the growth and development of community relationships; supports and participates in civic engagement; participates in community activities by providing information, answering questions and discussing community needs for services.
- Serves as the Manager on Duty, when needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work at/travel to various locations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree of Library Science from an accredited college or university.
- No prior experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least two years of experience working in a library setting.
- Previous experience developing and presenting programs, workshops, and classes for adults.
- At least one year of experience working with digital collections in an archival repository.
Physical Demands:
While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
