Job Duties:
Maintain accurate records pertaining to collections and records received according to chain of custody, donor information, value of materials, and temporary and permanent storage locations.
Make and track processing assignments to ensure timely access to State Archives collections and records. Provide informed guidance and assistance to processors on best practices for collections and records handling, preservation, storage and description. Process newly acquired and existing archival collections and state records according to established agency procedures and archival best practices for the arrangement of archival records. Review and edit finding aids and collections inventory databases created by others within the agency. Work with other sections within the division to address conservation and preservation needs of incoming and existing materials, and to promote new acquisitions for the Archives. Work with state, county and local agencies, as well as private and corporate donors, to identify, evaluate, preserve and receive collections. Present or participate in outreach programs. Maintain order of archival storage areas and report any issues of concern to appropriate authorities (division director, curator, conservator, Division of Building Services). Assist the public with using State Archives resources, locating and retrieving materials, navigating the division’s website and digital resources and advising researchers on the location of other historical resources outside the agency or division.
Applicants must meet or exceed these qualifications: The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in history, English or a related field; plus two years of archival or library experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who have had experience with archival processing, supervisory work in this area and a master’s degree in pertinent field.
