Purpose
The University Archivist applies an advanced level of professional skills to all aspects of archival administration in the University Archives. The University Archivist also works on the Special Collections service desk, participating fully in evening and weekend service desk rotations.
Essential Functions
Coordinates the identification, appraisal, acquisition, description, storage, access, preservation and disposal of University Archives in all formats including creation and EAD encoding of finding aids. Proactively builds partnerships across the University including administrators, faculty, students, and alumni; works directly with donors to acquire materials documenting UT Arlington's history. Leads efforts toward the acquisition, processing, and preservation of electronic records. Works as assigned at service desk providing reference assistance for all areas of Special Collections and Archives. Conducts bibliographic instruction and outreach to alumni, students, and community groups; coordinates accessioning, transcribing, and providing access to oral history interviews.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program or a master's degree in archival studies, history, or other closely related field. Two years of experience working in a special collections and/or a university archives, including reference, and archival processing, arrangement, and description of collection materials. 9 or more hours coursework in archival management and theory. Knowledge of current professional archival standards and best practices, trends in archival administration, issues in managing institutional records, and historical research methodology. Knowledge of descriptive metadata standards including MARC, DACS, and data structure standards relevant to archival control of collection materials including EAD. Experience with electronic records management and digital preservation issues. Demonstrated ability to think creatively, take initiative, solve problems, and work both independently and collaboratively. Effective written, verbal, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications
Membership in the Academy of Certified Archivists. Holds or is working toward a Society of American Archivists Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) certificate. Knowledge of current professional standards and best practices for records management, oral history, and preservation of a variety of formats. Experience working with archival management software such as Archivists Toolkit or Archives Space. Demonstrated organizational skills in planning, prioritizing and achieving goals, and coordinating and implementing effective programs, complex projects, and services.
Working Conditions
Will work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Climbing of stairs. Lifting and moving boxes up to 40 lbs. Climbing of ladders. Criminal background check conducted. This position may work non-traditional hours such as nights, weekends, and holidays depending upon the needs of the University community, patrons, donors/prospective donors, and other stakeholders for Special Collections and Archives. In addition, professional development and training may require travel.
