Archivist, Rosenberg Library
Setting: The Library's Galveston and Texas History Center serves approximately 3,100 researchers annually. Its Texana collection, including manuscripts, photos, maps, architectural drawings, and oral history interviews, are nationally recognized. Archival holdings date from 1506 to present. Duties: The Archivist is responsible for processing and cataloging manuscripts, maps, photos, and other materials, assisting patrons/researchers with reference questions, supporting digitization efforts, helping supervise and train interns and volunteers, and assisting the Special Collections Manager with public programs, exhibits, and publications. Position reports to the Special Collections Manager.
Required Education: M.A. in History, or M.L.I.S. from an ALA accredited institution specializing in archival-related studies.
Required Experience: Professional work experience in an archive, research library, or manuscript repository preferred. Experience with accessioning and processing manuscript materials in accordance with archival standards. Knowledge of digitization projects, digital preservation principles and best practices. Ability to use a collections management database, especially Cuadra Star Knowledge Center for Archives. Must possess strong computer skills. Ability to perform physical tasks, including climbing a ladder and lifting up to 40 pounds. This position requires a person who is detail oriented, able to work independently and as a member of a team, and has strong communication skills.
Salary: Minimum $39,686 D.O.Q./full-time with benefits.
