Assistant Librarian - Processing Archivist
Responsibilities: Texas A&M University-Kingsville seeks a dynamic, service-oriented archivist to serve the South Texas Archives by developing, arranging, and maintaining archival material.
Education: An American Library Association accredited MLS or MLIS degree is required (or MA with an archival concentration, archival management certificate, or related subject specialty).
Qualifications: One year of professional archival experience is required. Demonstrated knowledge of the processing of archival collections and the preparation of finding aids in an archival content management system. Experience with processing archival analog and digital collections and appraising donations. Knowledge of tools and software used to capture, manage, and deliver born-digital records such as forensic hardware, FTK, BitCurator, or DATA Accessioner. Familiarity with DACs, OAIS, EAD, Dublin Core, MODS, PREMIS, and XML. Proficiency using PC-based applications (Windows, word processing, spreadsheets) and other computer applications (email, Internet, Integrated Library Systems); ability to keep up to date with emerging technologies. Familiarity with LibGuides. Excellent analytical, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication abilities. Ability to work creatively, both independently and collaboratively. Ability to work with consistent accuracy and attention to detail while maintaining a high level of productivity.
Desired Qualifications: Society of American Archivists Arrangement & Description certificate, or evidence of courses toward its completion. Ability to articulate highly technical concepts and requirements to a variety of audiences. Working knowledge of film, audio, video, and photo formats and understanding of media processing technology, batching tools, and content storage.
Salary: $45,000-$50,000. Competitive benefits package. Position is a 12-month, fixed-term faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian.
