    What You Will Do
    Come join one of the most dynamic and largest libraries in the Federal Government, the National Security Research Center (NSRC). The NSRC is Los Alamos National Laboratory’s classified library, containing tens of millions of documents, films, books, and other archival material related to the development, testing and production of nuclear weapons, dating back to the first days of the Manhattan Project. The NSRC’s collections contain a breadth of classified technical information related to physics, chemistry, engineering, material science, intelligence, and national security. The NSRC’s holdings also include the hand-written notebooks of over a dozen Nobel Prize winning scientists who worked at the Lab.

    We are looking for an experienced Archives Coordinator to be responsible for the physical collections held by the NSRC and who can help us with the accessioning and processing of our materials. The incumbent will advise the Collections Management Team Leader and the NSRC Chief Librarian in automating the tracking of the NSRC’s physical collections, coordinating major collections transfers, and assisting the Research Librarian Team in finding items in the collections. This person will also perform a variety of duties related to the accessioning and maintenance of archival materials. The successful candidate must be detailed-oriented, have a passion for the organization of archival materials, and have an intellectual curiosity to learn about the nature of our scientific/engineering collections. This position requires a strong commitment to security, safety, and the proper arrangement of our collections.

    The successful candidate will:

    • Identify best way to organize our collections

    • Develop a method to standardize how the collections are tracked electronically

    • Assist the librarian and archivist staffs in locating materials in the NSRC

    • Organize and evaluate the NSRC’s physical collections, including accessioning, storage, and retrieval of our materials

    • Assist with properly accessioning and processing our collections

    • Monitor the utilization and accuracy of the archives management system

    • Recommend space planning and operational procedures of our collections

    • Monitor the conditions of our physical collections and recommend ways to better preserve them

    Salary Range: $69,300 - $110,000
