    DEPARTMENT/OFFICE: LOUISIANA STATE ARCHIVES

    LOCATION: BATON ROUGE

    SALARY:$2,694.00- $5,304.00 Monthly

    POSTING PERIOD: 29 MAY 2020- 3 JUNE 2020. UPDATE: Extended to June 10th.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The Archives Specialist works in the Multimedia Department under the supervision of the Archives Supervisor. Primary duties include preserving, inventorying, transferring, and cataloging film, video and audio tape.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • M.A. degree with strong emphasis on archival film studies and preservation
    • Capability to lift at least 25 lbs and retrieve items from shelves using ladders
    • Knowledge of oral history interviewing standards and practices
    • Experience in the operation of film handling and editing equipment and film and video viewing equipment
    • Knowledge of  Adobe Premiere or video editing equivalent
    • Knowledge in MS Office and PowerPoint
    • Experience with content/media management experience
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with industry professionals and television stations.
    • Skill in reading and composing correspondences and reports
    • Strong writing and editorial skills

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Performs accessing and cataloging of multimedia collections, including film, video, and audio tapes; identifies materials for accession and/or de-accession and arranges for, receives, and acknowledges accessions and recommends acceptance or rejection on the basis of value to the collection.
    • Monitors and ensures accuracy and consistency of information in the LDMA computer database, including accessioning collections into database and cataloging film and tape for description. Identifies characters and places of historical significance and establishing proper dates of film footage.
    • Corresponds and/or interacts with interested individuals regarding audio-video collections, including patrons for personal research and production houses for documentaries; acts as liaison with libraries, television station archives, and museums to obtain collections.
    • Inspects audio-video collections for signs of deterioration and recommends repair of film for preservation and prioritizes film for transfer/duplication.
    • Plans or assists in the planning, arranging and installation of exhibits from audio-video accessions to the State Archives and Secretary of State museums.
    • Performs specialized duties in audio recording and filming of oral histories, video and audio editing, tape transfer, etc.
    • Maintains records, including transfer logs, prepares reports, conducts correspondence, and prepares contracts and invoices for licensing fees of film footage.
    • Other related duties as assigned.
