Dear Texas Archives Colleagues,
 
The Society of American Archivists and the SAA Foundation want you to know that we’re here to help as you dig out from the severe weather you’ve been experiencing. Our thoughts are with all of you, your families, and your colleagues. 
 
As you begin to make your way back to your archives, we hope that you don't discover significant damages or loss of collections.  But when you survey your archives and collections for any preservation-related situations related to the storm, please remember that assistance is available to aid in your recovery. The SAA Foundation’s National Disaster Recovery Fund for Archives (NDRFA) provides grants of up to $5,000 to aid in recovery from disasters.
 
Grant funds may be used for the direct recovery of damaged or at-risk archival materials; for such services as freeze drying, storage, transportation of materials, and rental facilities; for supplies, including acid-free boxes and folders, storage cartons, cleaning materials, portable dehumidifiers, plastic milk crates, and protective gear; and to defray the costs for volunteers or other laborers who assist with the recovery. Grant monies are not intended for longer term preservation of collections or detailed preservation of collections. Activities such as infrastructure improvements or expenditures for permanent equipment, such as scanners, shelving, or replacement cabinets, are not an appropriate use of these funds.
 
If your repository is in need, please review the guidelines and apply for NDRFA funding here! Grants are reviewed in the order in which they are received, and our goal is to get the requested funds to your organization so that they can be put to use as soon as possible.
